Back in 2013, a solo software engineer with over 20 years of experience got fed up with the state of personal finance apps. Every tool on the market covered some of the bases, but none of them covered all of them. The workaround was always the same: juggle multiple apps, maintain spreadsheets on the side, and hope the numbers lined up. The goal from day one was to build a single platform with enough depth and customization to actually track finances accurately.

What started as a side project turned into over a decade of building. High standards and a constant pull toward “I can make this better” kept the project in a cycle of refactoring, redesigning, and optimizing. Eventually, a shift to a “ship it before you refactor” mindset broke the cycle. The API came first because having programmatic access to your own financial data was always part of the vision. The web app runs entirely on that same API.

Trupocket launched in December 2025 with 60+ API endpoints, a free tier, and Premium starting at $2.99/mo. That is a fraction of what tools like Monarch and YNAB charge. Development is ongoing and shaped by real user feedback. Take a look at the roadmap to see what is coming next.
